Restorative Therapeutic Yoga
They share the same foundation, but they don't have exactly the same focus.
Are Restorative Yoga and Therapeutic Restorative Yoga the same thing? They share the same foundation, but they don't have exactly the same approach. In Restorative Yoga, we use sustained postures and props to reduce effort, promote rest, and create conditions that facilitate relaxation. In Therapeutic Restorative Yoga, we also start with a question: Who is the person in front of me and what do they need today? We don't choose a posture just because it is restorative. We observe their physical condition, their mental and emotional state, their breathing, their level of activation, and, when appropriate, their medical history or diagnoses. And from there, we adapt the posture, the props, the duration, the breathing, and the stimuli. That is why the same posture can be constructed in very different ways for two people. Therapeutic Restorative Yoga does not seek to replace medical treatment or claim that a posture cures a pathology. It seeks to provide support in an individualized, conscious, and responsible way. Because in Therapeutic Restorative Yoga: we accompany, we do not impose. We listen, we do not force. We support, we do not demand.
