During his 24 years as director of the #MNBA -between the 40s and 60s- the artist Luis Vargas Rosas promoted a contemporary art exhibition program, which offered the Chilean public a current look at national and international artistic production. His aspiration was to complete the historical journey of the #Museo and update its collections with works of contemporary Chilean painting, Latin American art, and European avant-gardes. Through donations, international collaboration networks, private contributions, and collector legacies, more than 700 works entered the heritage collection between 1946 and 1969, consolidating a collection that, despite material limitations, significantly expanded its historical and geographical horizons. Today you can see some of those pieces in the exhibition "Luis Vargas Rosas. Un museo al ritmo de lo contemporáneo (1946-1970)".
