145 years: History of a Collection

The year was 1971 and the #MNBA was hosting the exhibition "Pinturas, Poemas y Explicaciones" by Cecilia Vicuña, who was invited by Nemesio Antúnez to present her work at the #Museo, as part of his policy to promote young experimental artists. Among the pieces exhibited was "Retrato doble", a work conceived as a poem-painting, which captures the expression of love in a poetic sense, where the couple is presented as distanced by two individual frames but with their hands crossing, each in the other's intimate space. After the exhibition, Cecilia Vicuña donated the painting to the Museum: more than 50 years later, you can see this work by the artist—awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2023—in the permanent exhibition "145 años: Historia de una Colección". . #Free 2nd floor 10:00 to 18:30. . 📷 Photo of the work: Eloísa Ide, MNBA.
