EL RINCÓN DE LA MAMITA: COGNAC CHICKEN, FRENCH FRIES, AND BORGOÑA El Rincón de la Mamita (@el_rincon_de_la_mamita), on Av. La Paz and just steps from La Vega Central, is one of those local eateries (picadas) that will remind you of your grandmother's house or that of an aunt who hosted the family on Sundays. The tablecloths are printed with fruit, the chairs are all different -black ones with painted flowers coexist with wooden ones with reed seats- and in a corner, the TV is tuned to the news. A dining room from another era that is still alive. The restaurant was founded in 1967 by Eliana Vega Pérez, 'la Mamita', and in 1986 it arrived at this old house, from where it has not moved. Today it is run by her children, Caro and Sebastián Collado, who continue a family history where everything revolves around the clay pot with cognac chicken. Before reaching the table, the chicken is chopped and cooked in a base of white wine with cinnamon, cloves, and spices, and only at the end does it get a touch of cognac.
