🏺Featured Object Showcase | The sarcophagus of Ta-Sherit-Min The Ancient Egypt collections are, without a doubt, some of the favorites for those who visit the Museum. In this new Featured Object Showcase, we invite you to discover the sarcophagus of Ta-Sherit-Min, a 17-year-old girl whose name can still be read in the hieroglyphs that decorate her coffin, accompanied by deities, amulets, and symbols intended to protect her on her journey to the afterlife. Her name remains written in the hieroglyphs of her sarcophagus, along with deities, amulets, and symbols intended to protect her in the afterlife. 🏺 ✨ Her mummified body and her sarcophagus allow us to get closer to the beliefs and funerary practices of ancient Egypt, preserved today as part of the Museum's collections. But this piece also has a history directly linked to the MNHN. In 1887, the mummified body and its sarcophagus arrived in Chile from Thebes to be donated to the Museum by Francisco Torromé. However, the Intendant Federico Varela, in charge of clearing them through customs, refused to hand them over. After five years of negotiations by Rodulfo Philippi, the set was recovered and finally entered the MNHN in 1892. 🏛️📜 🔎 Learn more… On the flyer: MNHN National Museum of Natural History Chile WOODEN SARCOPHAGUS OF TA-SHERIT-MIN
