Remodelación San Borja at OH! Stgo 2026 🌆 Built in the heart of Santiago, it is one of the most ambitious housing complexes in Chilean urban history. Conceived between 1964 and 1972 as part of a state urban renewal plan under the direction of the Corporación de Mejoramiento Urbano (CORMU), it was born with a radical promise: to rethink how the city is lived and inhabited. Its buildings, the work of architects Margarita Pissano, Hugo Gaggero, Carlos Bresciani, Héctor Valdés, Fernando Castillo, and Carlos Huidobro, among others, adopted a square floor plan with six apartments per floor, repeated in height up to twenty-three levels. Arranged like an archipelago of detached volumes and connected by a system of pedestrian walkways, these constructions broke with the traditional grid of streets and sidewalks, and a network of common facilities was organized beneath them in underground streets. The walkways, now partly unused, have been the subject of recovery projects and are the most distinctive and least understood feature of the complex.
