Llave de Paso addresses water as an essential resource that, in contexts of scarcity, also acquires economic and strategic value. Through painting, installation, and a performative dimension, Camilo Ortega constructs scenes where pipes, desert landscapes, and mining coexist with images associated with well-being, such as gardens, swimming pools, and tourism. From the Chilean desert, the project observes the contradictions of a territory where water sustains daily life, extractive processes, and promises of development. The stopcock (llave de paso) appears as a metaphor for control: a mechanism that allows for regulating a flow and raises questions about who manages water, who can access it, and how a fundamental resource for life is distributed.
