This Ceramic Sculpture workshop, as its name suggests, focuses specifically on sculptural practice through clay, inspired by the human figure, and open to the possibility of other figurations and abstractions. We will explore the symbolic elements present in the clay process —water, earth, fire, and air— understanding ceramics not only as a technique, but as a material in transformation that can be incorporated into the language of each work. The workshop will also address the possibility of combining ceramics with other materials, learning how to prepare and adapt a piece to incorporate elements that will be added after firing, from iron, wood, and wire to fibers, wool, or feathers. Each participant will develop small investigations and exercises that will progressively lead to a larger-scale sculpture, built from the addition and transformation of its parts. A single firing per piece will be carried out —high-temperature single firing— so the finishes and surface treatments will be thought out from the sculptural process prior to the firing.
