This book, about the history of the Soviet KPD industrial apartment construction factory, is part of an effort to reconstruct popular history and memory, intellectually systematizing the contribution of historiography with sources derived from the workers' memories, collected methodologically through oral history. It is especially significant how the author develops the experience and perception of the Cold War at a local level, how the “rationality” of the economic, political, and ideological confrontation of the great powers is transferred to the installation of the KPD in Quilpué. How that rationality brought to this concrete and local experience transforms into irrationality, in the incomprehension of its workers, by a company that is a significant contribution to solving the housing problem, with solid, quality works built in a short time, and that only because of its Soviet origin is tainted with “evil” and becomes the object, along with its workers, of smear campaigns, persecution, and finally repression and its closure.
