Engraving involves a paradox: the image is born from a wound. Every incision in the metal, every cut in the wood, builds a negative that only reveals its meaning in the transfer. Before the print, there exists a territory that this exhibition makes visible: the matrix as an autonomous object, a place where the image resides in silence. Marchant's work starts from a performative, random, and intuitive gesture, which becomes a progressive exploration. Through state proofs in metal engraving and woodcut, the image deepens and discovers itself. There is no predetermined destination: there is a process of listening. The exhibition presents final works alongside the proofs that precede them. The matrix ceases to be a medium to become a subject of contemplation.
